Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: - BT1203/BA1113 - Advanced Keyboarding
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:Three credit hours of lecture. This course is designed for the administrative professionals major. A high degree of proficiency in production work will be reached through various technical simulations. Both electronic typewriters and microcomputers will be used. Prerequisite: Intermediate Keyboarding, a word processing course, or permission of instructor. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- DIVISION/DEPT/PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT:The mission of the Administrative Professionals program is consistent with the mission of Seward County Community College/Areal Technical School. The program will provide students with quality learning opportunities and experiences to meet the diverse, changing needs for the development of better futures.

- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES:Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to fulfill the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:
- Outcome #3. Solve problems using a variety of techniques and technologies.
- Outcome #4. Think critically by gathering facts, generating insights, analyzing data, and evaluating information.
- Outcome #5. Utilize current technology relevant to their respective disciplines.
- COURSE COMPETENCIES: Upon acceptable completion of the course competencies and an average of 85 percent or higher on mastery assessments, the student will be able to demonstrate proper use of equipment through:
- Using proper keyboard hand positions;
- Maintaining good posture while keyboarding;
- Maintaining an efficient workstation.
- Develop keyboarding competencies using computer/typewriter through:
- Executing basic computer commands;
- Exhibiting decision-making skills when performing simulated work;
- Keying a minimum of 45 WAM for 5 minutes with no more than 5 errors;
- Formatting various styles of business letters using rules of mail ability;
- Identifying and using special letter parts;
- Addressing envelopes using postal service's recommended format;
- Formatting memos;
- Formatting unbound and bound reports;
common business forms; and tables;
- Using appropriate reference materials;
- Proofreading and correcting errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, and word division.
- TOPICAL COURSE OUTLINE: Develop ability to use equipment properly:
- Develop speed/proficiency on typewriter/computer through:
- Keying skill-building drills/timings;
- Setting margins, line spacing, and tabs;
- Accuracy and speed drills;
- Exercising decision-making skills;
- Keying mailable business letters in various formats;
- Learning placement of special letter parts;
- Formatting memos using various formats;
- Keying unbound and bound reports;
- Keying second-page headings;
- Keying envelopes using postal service's recommended format;
- Keying various business forms; formatting tables and tabulated materials
- Composing business correspondence;
- Proper use of reference materials;
- Applying formatting knowledge in office simulations.
- Improve language arts skills through:
- Recognizing spelling errors and correcting them;
- Using correct punctuation, syllabication, capitalization, and word division.

- Measurement of SCCC/ATS Outcomes will be assessed as follows:
- Outcome #3: The assessments will be the daily hands-on assignments.
- Outcome #4: The assessments will be on projects requiring the student to exercise decision-making skills to complete time sensitive projects.
